Board of Directors

As you review the following brief biographies of the volunteers who come together to serve on the Sarasota Sculpture Center Board of Directors, you will see how fortunate the community is to have these individuals freely donate their time, experience, and knowledge in various areas to make Sarasota Sculpture Center such a success for Sarasota. Each year our Sarasota Sculpture Center brings visitors from around the world to view and experience the “art on the bay.”

  • SUSAN L. McLEOD

    SUSAN L. McLEOD

    Chair of the Board

    Susan has lived in the Sarasota community since 1971. In the early to mid-1980′s she owned and operated the Susan McLeod Gallery at St. Armands Circle. The featured artists were products of the American Studio Glass movement, as well as European artists. She founded the First Annual Glass Invitational in Sarasota. Currently, Susan is a realtor with Michael Saunders & Co., a perennial top producer, and an expert in luxury upscale waterfront properties. Her involvement in giving back to the community has included board positions with the French Film Festival, Advisory Board to Mote Marine Laboratories, the Asolo Theatre, the Humane Society of Sarasota, and the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.

    Susan in currently a member of the International Sculpture Center Board of Trustees, based in Hamilton, New Jersey.

    H. MICHAEL BUSH

    Treasurer of the Board

    Michael is President of Home Resources, Inc. and has held senior executive positions in Europe and the United States for Exxon Mobil and other smaller publicly traded companies. Michael is a CPA and serves as Treasurer for WBTT. Boards that Michael has served on include: the Sarasota Film Festival, American Red Cross, and various downtown Sarasota business associations.
  • DR. LARRY THOMPSON

    DR. LARRY THOMPSON

    Dr. Larry Thompson has been the President of Ringling College of Art & Design since July 1999. Larry is known as a visionary community leader and is passionate about the arts and education. Currently, Larry is Chair of the Sarasota County Arts Council, leadership spokesman for the Tamiami Cultural District Project and is on the boards of Coastal Behavioral healthcare, Community Health Corporation for Sarasota Memorial Hospital and the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the newly formed Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County Partners Council and is the Chair of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (“AICAD”) Executive Committee and serves on the President’s Council of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (“ICUF”).

    Barbara is a realtor with Michael Saunders and Company. In addition to her responsibilities as Season of Sculpture’s secretary, she is also the Docent Tour Program facilitator.
  • Carol Camiener

    Carol Camiener

    Board Member

    Carol’s board experience started while living in the metropolitan Detroit area where she was very active with The Detroit Institute of Arts, and co-chair to the Annual Fundraiser by the Detroit Public Television Station. Presently, Carol is a Trustee of Ringling School of Art & Design. Being an avid art glass collector, Carol helped to create and co-chair the Southwest Florida Glass Art Alliance and is a national board member and Membership Chair of the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass. Besides her busy board work Carol is also a committee member of the Longboat Key Arts Center.
  • Tom Savage

    Tom came to Sarasota in 1971 and has been with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Department for 23 of his 39 years here. Tom is an ordained minister that has served various churches from Belmont, Massachusetts to Elgin, Illinois to Madison, Wisconsin and then in 1971 Tom came to the Unitarian Church of Sarasota where he served them until 1979.

    Rita came to Sarasota after spending a number of years in New York City. While living in New York, Rita was quite active in her daughters PTA, and on the board of several not-for-profit organizations including the national Council of Jewish Women. A main interest in the city was with one of the largest social service agencies in New York – Self-Help Community Services where she was on the Executive Board for many years besides continuing her volunteer work with the group. Season of Sculpture is so very fortunate to have an individual of Rita’s experience on our Board of Directors.
  • Dr. John D. Welch

    Dr. John D. Welch

    Board Member

    In 1998, after 30 years, John retired from his urology practice (Florida Urology Specialists) that he founded when he relocated from Tampa to Sarasota in 1970. John has been involved with the Sarasota arts and sports scenes for many years. He has been an active board member with the Asolo Repertory Theatre, Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Sarasota Film Festival, serves on Advisory Boards of Sarasota County’s Film Commission, Florida Film and Entertainment Council and the Blue Ocean Film Festival. Dr. John is also a member of multiple medical organizations, including the Florida Medical Association and the Florida Urology Society where he served as President in 1986.
  • Margaret Barnes

    Margaret is a Ringling College of Art and Design graduate and an exhibiting artist in Sarasota. She is Season of Sculpture’s Education Outreach facilitator.

    Board Member

    David is a Sarasota attorney with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, and a coxswain coach of the Sarasota Crew Rowing Club. He is preparing a survey and an economic impact Report for Season of Sculpture.
  • Director of Public Relations

    Director of Public Relations

    Pamela Beck

    Pamela is Public Relations Director for Sarasota Sculpture Center and a private art consultant specializing in Contemporary and Modern Art. She co-owned Pannonia Galleries in New York City, specializing in 19th century and modern art, through the gallery and international art fairs. Pamela worked at Sotheby's, New York, in the Impressionist & Modern Art Department.
